Muskegon River Brown Trout (11/19/13)

The Muskegon River has an excellent native brown trout population that go into a late fall feeding frenzy before the snow flies.  Every year these large size browns migrate to the same key locations in the late fall.  What we look for is the surface activity they create in these key areas.  By targeting the surface activity created by these large browns allows us the opportunity to have a shot at them.

To make things even better, the stage is being set right now on the Muskegon River to bring in large numbers of steelhead.  These past couple days of heavy rain has increased the water levels to around 4200 cfs.  This is the first major push of water we have had all fall on the Muskegon.  What this does is instantly trigger large amounts of steelhead to migrate upstream seeking winter holding areas.  Higher water makes the steelhead fishing even better with good flows.  Once the water starts to recede in the next couple days, hold on!  Steelhead fishing on the Muskegon River will be on fire!  Last year, the best fall steelhead fishing occurred the first week of December due to similar weather conditions we are experiencing now.

Give us a call to book a trip if you would like to see what we mean.

**Special thanks to Matt Zudweg for advice on some excellent fall fly patterns!**
