Neil pictured top with a nice Muskegon river salmon and really nice 20″ rainbow trout along with his son Derrick with a nice salmon from the Muskegon river on a beautiful fall day.

Even though our landing percentage didn’t represent, the number of battles we had with kings today did.  It never stops to amaze me just how powerful these king salmon are.  They know every fallen tree, rock, stump, and obstacle in the river to run to in hopes of breaking you off.

The salmon run is off to a moderate start.  Fish are present but not in the numbers we’ve grown to love over the years.  Some say the run is starting late.  I remain optimistic in that view, having witnessed large numbers of fresh salmon staging in the deep pools.  The biggest factors moving forward remains cooler temperatures and more rain/water.  We need these cooler temps and more water to drive more salmon in from Lake Michigan and with it more steelhead.
