Muskegon River Steelhead (4/7/13)

Mark from Chicago & Scott from New buffalo came out today for some steelhead fishing on the Muskegon River in Michigan.  Words cannot do justice to the fight this chrome hen put up when Mark hooked it on a egg fly!  I’ve caught and witnessed many epic battles with these fish.  Few compare to the aerial display this one put on!  Mark’s line went limp only to witness this chrome hen sky rocket out the water 20 feet from the boat.    It was the kind of strike where the fish hits the fly so hard,  it immediately jets up stream, and sky rockets out of the water realizing it’s hooked!  6 to 7 jumps later (many 10 feet from the boat) and a half dozen drag screaming runs later, the hen made our net!  Scott caught the entire fight on his Go Pro video camera.  As soon as I have the video, I’ll post it to the website.  I assure you, if you’ve never caught a steelhead before, this video will give you a far better appreciate for just how much power these fish have and why they are bar none the best fresh water game fish in the world!  Mark, looks like the jinx you thought you had is now up.  Very well done today Mark!!!  Awesome job!
