Spring Is In The Air On The Muskegon!

Spring Is In The Air On The Muskegon!

Muskegon River Steelhead

This nice buck hit a nymph pattern after several attempts through the same run yesterday.

Water levels on the Muskegon have fluctuated up & down inconsistently with the weather patterns past few days.  2100 cfs this morning, 3000 in the afternoon.  Its made guessing flow rates very difficult.  Holes that produce one day are shut down the next due to a dramatic decrease in the water level.

Steelhead are present but we still need a strong push of water with warmer air temps to send more steelhead upstream.  Next weeks mild temps followed by rain is exactly what’s needed to start the steelhead run!

Water levels are holding around 2900 cfs & crystal clear.  Water temps are deadlocked at 35 degrees until next weeks major warm up.  Look for a transition between winter fishing and spring steelhead fishing approaching quickly.  There’s a major spring weather pattern headed our way next week.  Above average air temps in the mid 50’s followed by rain and warm nights.  You couldn’t ask for a better stage to be set for a spring steelhead run!

Stay tuned!
