Muskegon river rainbow trout

Crimson winter buck on the Muskegon

Late February steelhead on the Muskegon

Had a chance to fish a couple hours this past weekend.  The bite was good with several opportunities at some great steelhead including a really nice rainbow trout.  If the size of trout this winter is any indication how good the trout fishing will be this spring we are in for a great season!

Water levels have recently spiked up and down from 3200 to 4200 and back down to 3800 cfs with a moderate stain.  Steelhead fishing remains good as the recent warmer weather has raised the water levels bringing with it more steelhead up river.

The start of the spring steelhead run all relates to that magic 42 degree water temp needed to start it.  With the very mild winter so far, March could offer an early start to a great spring steelhead run on the Muskegon river.

Get ready!
