The boys from Wisconsin (pictured from top in order Paul, Ben, & Bob) with some outstanding steelhead and Paul with one of the biggest Muskegon river brown trout I’ve seen in a long time taken on a stone fly. Also, Ben is holding a very uniquely shaped steelhead. It almost looks like a pink salmon.
As the fishing started out slow the boys finished up strong with one the most productive steelhead trips this spring. Nothing is better than a strong ending with some extraordinary clients catching some outstanding Muskegon river steelhead, rainbows, and brown trout. And Bob pictured with the final steelhead of the day that did not get away this time. Great job guys!
Water levels are really good holding around 3,000 cfs with a nice stain. Water temps are hovering around the 50 degree point. The run is not over yet. More fish are currently on the move taking up residency in key locations, as we get closer to May.
May has always been in years past a very productive month to fish steelhead on the Muskegon. A fresh push of water in May usually brings a fresh batch of new steelhead in. So as May showers press on so does the spring steelhead run. Regardless, the relief of the relentless fishing pressures the past few weeks on the Muskegon river has really improved the steelhead fishing.
