The One That Got Away….

Charlie's 2014 Muskegon river winter steelhead

Charlie's 2nd Muskegon river winter steelhead

We’ve heard it all before.  “You should have seen the one that got away.”  Unfortunately, Charlie Jr. (not pictured above) lost an awesome steelhead at the boat.  Not much you can do when the fish darts under the boat and almost breaks the rod, clears the other side of the boat only to go full steam up stream for the anchor rope in hopes of breaking off.  Then falls back short with one swipe of the net barely missing him, only to break off with the tippet rubbing the oarlock as the massive steelhead dives for the other side of the boat again.  Estimated 31″, 15lb crimson chrome monster that got away.

Fortunately, we have Charles Sr pictured above, getting the job done with two of several hook-ups from both Charles today.

P.s.  Charles Jr….. we all feel your pain.  Remember, better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.  Awesome catch & release, hell of a fight!!
