Muskegon River King Salmon

Fall is an absolutely beautiful time of year to fish the Muskegon river here in Michigan.  The annual migration of king salmon start to enter the river system and along with it fall steelhead and lake run browns follow suite up river in search of salmon roe discharged from actively spawning king salmon.

Trout fishing with dry flies also picks up as water temps cool and the caddis fly hatch starts to explode sending the resident trout into a feeding frenzy.

Fishing options are endless.  Whether its a 30+ lb king salmon you seek ripping across the water, a fall steelhead burning your fly reel into its backing, or large size trout feeding top water on dry flies.  Fall fishing on the Muskegon has a lot to offer!

Muskegon River Brown Trout

Early September through October offers some of the best fall dry fly fishing for trout as the cooler water and air temps produce some excellent caddis hatches sending the trout into a massive feeding frenzy.  It doesn’t get much better than watching a 20+ inch trout smashing your dry fly top water as the fish rips into your backing on a light 5 weight fly rod.
