Feel The Steel Heat!

Feel The Steel Heat!
(Devin with a hard fighting male Steelhead)

With a 22-degree start this past Saturday morning the only way to heat up quickly is to catch an incredible Muskegon River steelhead at the break of dawn.  And Catch it he did.  Please meet my good friend Devin from Muskegon Michigan with the best of the day at 14-pounds, 28-inches of pure Muskegon River Twisted Steel!

(Tale of the Tape)

This magnificent naturally reproduced Muskegon River steelhead just ripped Devin’s drag system into the backing twice before finally tiring this beast and bringing to the net after multiple attemps.

(Let Them Go! Let Them Grow!)

I know more often than not some people want to “fill the meat lockers” with fish fillets but with low numbers of steelhead trying to make a come back in Michigan, sometimes the best thing to do is let them go, let them grow so we have a healthy and numerous steelhead population for many more years to come.  We want steelhead like Devin’s naturally reproducing the river with thousands of steelhead like his.

(Devin & Tucker Celebrating Success)

Here’s Devin and his son Tucker helping Dad celebrate in the success of a beautiful Muskegon River Steelhead.

With the recent warm weather finally on the horizon we are reaching that magic 42-degree water temps in the week to come.

Several fresh steelhead are on the run up river with some winter hold-overs starting to hit gravel. The spring steelhead run on the Muskegon is just getting started.
