Here’s my great friend Ted from Chicago with what I think is a Skamania (summer run steelhead) steelhead. Notice the long slender 30-inch body just as Skamania steelhead are known for. Also notice no adipose fin so this steelhead was a planted steelhead by the Michigan DNR as Skamania steelhead were also all planted by the DNR. Not to mention all the aerial jumps Skamania are known for just as Ted’s steelhead did as he fought it.

Skamania steelhead are very rare for the Muskegon as most of the Skamania steelhead were planted predominantly in the St. Joe and Manistee rivers. Very rare for a Skamania to make the voyage up the muskegon.
Despite the low clear water steelhead continue to enter the upper reaches of the Muskegon. Rain and colder weather in the forecast will only make the steelhead fishing better in the weeks to come!
