Steelhead Fishing the Muskegon River in Michigan

Back on April 7th, 2013 I had the pleasure of guiding Scott Kosik & Mark for a early spring steelhead trip (see 4/7/13 post).  Scott was nice enough to send me the video of that trip filmed from his Go Pro camera.  If you ever want to get a taste of what it’s like to… Continue Reading

Trout Fishing the Muskegon River in Michigan (6/12/13)

Last nights trout fishing wasn’t about the ones we caught as much as it was about the ones we didn’t catch.  We witnessed (stalked) more than five very large size trout rising last night, one of which well over the 22″ mark.  The dry fly fishing for trout on the Muskegon river remains red hot with… Continue Reading

Muskegon River Trout Fishing Report (6/5/13)

Doesn’t get much better than watching a 20″ brown come up from the depths to slam your dry fly presentation 15 feet from the boat!  Dry fly fishing remains very strong.  Despite the light gray drake spinner hatch, sulfurs, & cinnamon caddis were the top producers for us this evening. Trout Fishing, Muskegon River in Michigan (6/2/13)

The gray drake spinner fall has been on fire the past few days.  With lower water levels around 3200 cfs and the improved water clarity has made way for some excellent dry fly trout fishing on the Muskegon river.  Here’s a few of several from today.  Unfortunately, we lost a couple huge fish at the… Continue Reading

Muskegon River Trout Fishing (5/18/13)

Trout fishing on the Muskegon river is heating up!  Dries and streamers are producing well in select spots and it’s only going to get better as the temps warm up.  Stalking rising trout is the name of the game  for us right now.  This is your best opportunity of the year to catch monster browns and… Continue Reading

Steelhead On The Mighty MO (5/11/13)

A little rain….a little wind……a lot of steelhead!  Amazing what a good hard rain will do to help bring up fresh steelies!  Bert joined me again for a half day trip filled with hook ups.  Here’s a few from today including this nice double stripe buck Bert landed on a fry pattern. Post by Jon… Continue Reading

Muskegon River Trout & Steelhead Fishing (5/5/13)

Mark & his son Allen from Illinois joined me this past Sunday for a half day evening trip.  Both are relatively new to steelhead fishing and found out first hand why steelhead are the hardest fighting fresh water game fish in North America.  Both Mark and Allen hooked their fair share of steelhead, but just… Continue Reading

Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing Report 5/4/13

What better way to say “I love you” then taking your wife on a guided steelhead trip for her birthday?  Hat’s off to Jim and Bonnie from Muskegon, MI celebrating Bonnie’s birthday in style, slamming steelhead all day long!  Both Bonnie & Jim put the stick to them hard.  Bonnie held top honors  with three… Continue Reading

Muskegon River Steelhead (4/7/13)

Mark from Chicago & Scott from New buffalo came out today for some steelhead fishing on the Muskegon River in Michigan.  Words cannot do justice to the fight this chrome hen put up when Mark hooked it on a egg fly!  I’ve caught and witnessed many epic battles with these fish.  Few compare to the… Continue Reading

Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing Report (3/9/13)

The morning bite was key for us today.  Couple of things made it challenging; water levels dropped & the clarity is improving.  Regardless, Jeff from GR put some great Michigan Steelhead in the boat! Look for this weekend’s warm up to help  melt significant amounts of snow.  This fast run off will bring higher water levels and… Continue Reading
