Ever Seen A 15 Pound Muskegon River Walleye Before?
(Carl with a massive 15 pound Muskegon River walleye)

Every early spring we normally catch some really nice walleye by mistake fishing steelhead during the spring steelhead run because walleye spawn just in front of the steelhead.  But in over 30 years fishing the Muskegon river I’ve never seen one this big!

Please meet my great friend (and professional pistol shooting instructor) Carl from Caledonia, MI with what can only be described as a giant 15-pound, 28-inch length front to back, and 20-inch circumference around the belly mammoth walleye.   This beautiful walleye is one for the record books!  Congrats Carl!

This big beautiful girl is just filled to the gills with eggs ready to pop!

Not only can Carl land wall-hanger walleye, he’s also really good at landing steelhead as well with this beautiful chrome hen brought to the net.

The guys were nice enough to let me in the photo with another one of Carl’s beautiful chrome hens.

Carl’s walleye is worth another look.

With the recent warm weather finally on the horizon we are reaching that magic 42-degree water temps in the week to come.

Several fresh steelhead are on the run up river with some winter hold-overs starting to hit gravel. The spring steelhead run on the Muskegon is just getting started.
