Here’s my great friend Amy (Bob’s daughter) from Madison, WI with an absolute beast of a Male Muskegon river steelhead.
Start of the trip Amy explained it very well and I agree. “It’s all about feelings.” Feeling of making that great cast, feeling of running that perfect drift, and feeling of that hard stop when you feel those first few tugs on the rod as you set the hook and feel that lightning bolt pull through the fly rod just as you see a massive steelhead rocket out of the water with your fly in its jaw. Fight’s on! Absolutely right Amy. It’s all about feelings! And your feelings are right on with this incredible steelhead! Congrats! Great fish! Great fight! Great job!
Water levels remain perfect with flows maintaining excellent levels holding around 3500cfs. New pushes of water almost every other day continue to push new fish up river as the spawned out female steelhead begin to drop back and water temps continue to warm.
With these continued pushes of water and such a cold start to the spring steelhead run will pro-long the spring run well into May making May a great time to come out and fish steelhead on the Muskegon river.
