February Steelhead Heat!

February Steelhead Heat!
(Big Beautiful Hen from the Muskegon)

Here’s a very healthy big beautiful Muskegon river steelhead seeking refuge from Lake Michigans’ harsh winter environment spending time in the security of the Muskegon river winter lies waiting for that spring thaw.

(Tale of the Tape!)

So nice to see steelhead this healthy filled with eggs waiting to spawn.  These are the quality steelhead you want reproducing creating generations of new healthy steelhead to last for decades to come.

(Hard fighting buck!)

This little buck hit in the deepest part of the pool.  The gut of the run always seems to produce the hardest fighting steelhead!

Very little shelf ice throughout the river system as the Muskegon river always seems to remain ice-fee above Newaygo due to the natural 45 degree natural springs throughout the river system and due to the flows only a tail water river system can produce.

Steelhead are scattered throughout the river system with some locations producing better than others.  Seems to change on a daily basis.  Water conditions are ideal now holding around 1500cfs with crystal clear clarity.  Perfect winter steelhead fishing conditions right now!
